The official route stretches for 16 miles along Woodward Avenue and passes through nine Oakland County communities, and Bloomfield Hills is one of them. It attracts more than 1 million visitors and over 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom cars, collector vehicles, and other special-interest vehicles.
For a city with roughly four thousand residents, hosting a slice of a million-person event is the defining logistical fact of the month. Free SMART shuttle service operates on Saturday, August 15, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Buses run the full length of the route from Ferndale to downtown Pontiac. You can board at any RED SMART or FAST bus stop along Woodward Avenue. Pre-cruise activity begins on Friday, August 14, which means the corridor is already thickening by Friday afternoon.

Why Bloomfield Hills Sits Differently Than Birmingham
This is the piece most Dream Cruise coverage misses. Birmingham closes South Old Woodward and builds an event on top of it. Bloomfield Hills does not. The city sits on the route as a driving stretch, not a staging stretch, which is why the experience here is measured in cars-per-minute past your windshield rather than in vendor booths.
That has practical consequences if you live north of Long Lake. Woodward becomes slow through-traffic, but the side streets off Vaughan, Hickory Grove, and Cranbrook Road stay usable. Getting east or west across Woodward on Saturday afternoon is the actual problem, not getting anywhere on the interior of the city. Planning any Saturday errand that crosses the corridor is worth doing before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m.
The stretch also draws a specific car crowd. Joe Muer sits directly on Woodward, which is either the point or the problem depending on when you arrive. Book it for the Friday before or the Sunday after, not the Saturday.
Off-corridor. Bill's occupies the location where the celebrated Fox & Hounds Restaurant once stood, drawing inspiration from the history of the neighborhood. Moose Preserve remains the reliable interior-of-town family option, and Eddie Merlot's holds down Woodward and Big Beaver at the southern edge.
Morning and sweet. Chez Pierre et Genevieve in Bloomfield Hills, where the only decision you have to make is whether you want the ham and cheese croissant or the caramelized onion flatbread for breakfast is the small-morning play. Stroh's Ice Cream Parlour is the late-afternoon one; the parlor is well-known for their diverse ice cream options with many flavors and various toppings. The Bake Shop's Bloomfield Hills expansion sits in the same rotation.

Between Cranbrook and Woodward, The Village Club programs the weeks in between.
